Jon Connor- Place On Earth

I mean, for reals for reals, Connor's gotta be one of the best doing right now. On his new tape Season 2, he flips this 80's sample into a meaningful statement of his slow rise in the rap scene, expressing it with a nip-tuck flow that leaves your jaw on the floor and your balls in your ass.

Tony Yayo & Danny Brown- On One

Well this is a really damn weird collaboration mixtape: Yayo the G-Unit excon, Brown the flamboyant shrieky-voiced rapper from the future and three Based God features. Wow. Just, wow. How is this possibly good? This semi-bassless track explains it all. This did come out before Drake aka Sir Aroma Therapy jacked it into a hit single. Plus, a Buju Banton reference is guaranteed to get me aroused.

Madchild- Fuck Madchild

If youre a racist motherfucker you won't like Madchild, the Canadian rapper who forms one third of Swollen Members and isn't allowed inside the United States. He's white, unabashedly white; his rhymes are intricate and require some really close listening. Having rebounded from a devastating heroin addiction, this song is the first off of an upcoming solo effort. Do yourself a favor and open your ears.

The Coup- Fat Cats, Bigga Fish

One more old school cut, The Coup was a politically minded group from the early 90's that made hard-edged uban-hop. This highlight features a really fucking great beat and masterful wordplay.

Run-D.M.C.- Sucker MC's (Krush Groove-1)

You know, Larry Smith was really one of the best producers of all time. He invented hip-hop drums and gave rise to a generation of beat makers permeating all the way down to, say, Chuck Inglish. This song is really an example of that minimalist boom-bap that gave Run-D.M.C. their edge, and made them great.

N.O.R.E.- Living My Life

E-Swags loved this track when I showed it to him, probably because the beat is insanity and N.O.R.E.'s genuine, realistic sentiments can hit home at the right moment. "I woke up on the right side of the bed babeeeeeeee!"

The Neptunes- It Blows My Mind (feat. Snoop Dogg)

Here's an old one off Clones featuring Calvin Broadus himself. This is album getting dusty sitting on the shelves, but this bell beat literally blows my mind, listen.
